I have been successful welding stuff together...but Ive been using a chill bar to place behind the two pieces of metal so that it wouldnt burn through.

Anywho,I have to weld a part on my windshield frame that I cant get a chill bar behind. So -- How do you guys MIG weld sheet metal when you dont use a chill bar? I typically burn through when I dont use one....

Thanks!

Try turning your welder down a little, or move a litte bit faster :-)

Hope this helps...

Do you have a picture of what you're trying to weld? It may help with suggestions.

Bob,

Hal is right, turn down your welder and also you may have to move a little faster. I will also spot weld areas, then let them cool, gradually filling in the area.

I am no "expert" so any other suggestions are certainly welcome! 8)

Just tried welding up the windshield frame by moving a little faster -- and it worked! Had a little fiasco chasing holes since some of the metal around that area was pretty pitted, but got it all under control.

Thanks for the help!
