can anyone identify these holes??

these are on my 51 m-38. there's an identical set on the other
side of the cowl. i've penciled in where a bracket once was-
(no brackets were there when i got the jeep).. any ideas?? thxImage

The spacing of the holes, and the general shape of the bracket outline, it looks like someone installed an old chevy rear view mirror on it. Looks just right for the 67-72 model pickups.

I have seen a few aftermarket mirrors that have bases like this... think JC Whitney or Sears 1960's - '70's.
