Can anyone point me in the direction of some good suppliers for rebuild kits for the military fuel pump & carb for my M38A1? I have a few weeks off from grad school & hope to get a few things done. Merry Christmas, everyone!

I know MidwestMil is supposed to have one of the best carb. rebuild kits around. I do not have any experience with them but other items I have ordered are great quality. Here is a link to their site for M38A1 parts:

They probably have a fuel pump rebuild kit also, but I have not looked in to it.

Then and Now Automotive has what you need as well.

second Bull Run. Just rebuilt my fuel/vacuum pump with their kit and was a nice kit and quick shipping.

Midwest military, Army Jeep Parts and Ron F's all carry the modern rubbers carb kits.
Then and Now offers good pump kits and they also rebuild the pumps. When ordering pump kit have the numbers from the mounting flange of your pump handy. If you send your pump to Then and Now be sure to specify what type body you want back.
Midwest Military was also rebuilding pumps and offering them exchange.

Does anyone have an opinion about Walcks carb rebuilder? I have a Carter YF to rebuild and Walcks told me that they don't have them in stock but they would send mine to a rebuilder. When we get it back it will be like new according to Carl. It takes about a month.

The very best M38 & M38A1 carb rebuilder that I have ever used is Jim Wallace, 7566 Wilshire Road, Pensacola, FL 32526 850 944-5977 or jwallace.gulf@earthlink.net
I am EXTREMELY pleased with his work.

Chuck does Wallace deal with the civvy YF's mentioned above?

I am not certain about the YF, I was mainly responding to Galen's request for the military YS, but it would sure be worth a phone call to find out, Jim does excellent work.

For what it is worth, I bought a rebuilt fuel pump for my 1952 Jeep pick up from Walcks, and the gasket between the pump and the bulb swelled up so bad gas ran out of it. Made my own gasket to correct the problem. In all fairness Walcks said he would pay for any costs involved in replacing the gasket. Haven't ran it much since, just hoping the other rubber parts are not made of the same rubber.

Thanks for all the responses. I've found the best price on the carb rebuild kit at
www.rigidsteel.com, $35.99. Has anyone ever used this one? Same number as Midwest Mil. I've bought a few parts from Rigid, mostly steering - he has some really good prices if you hunt through his stuff.

The web site link does not work for me, can you check it? That's a good price for the carb kit and I will need one soon. Just got my fuel pump kit from Then & Now and it is very complete.

I'm pretty sure that the carb kit from Rigid Steel isn't the same one you'd get from MWM. I think you can only get that kit from MWM, AJP and Debella.

The modern rubber kit with all the closeout plugs and etc from MWM, AJP & DeBella were all $55 and contained all the parts to service either the YS637S or the YS950S so you got a few extra parts. The kit sold for $3X? by Ron F Jeep Parts is specific to only one carb and contains the same modern rubbers. I have never seen the kit from rigid steel.

Do they have a monopoly on that particular kit? I thought that the parts number for the kit from Rigid is the same . . .
Here's a better link to their site, you can also find it on the links page for theCJ2Apage.com:
