1. What was the purpose behind the windshield (hand hold?) brackets on the M170?
2. Why the elevated bracket for the windshield hold down strap?
Thanks,
Jim

Most of that has to do with the upper stretcher installation and the canvas top.

Wes,
You are like having a big brother that knows everything! Understand the two straps on the drivers side and the board support in the center.
Why the larger passenger side bracket? Seems too high for litter support. Part of the seat hold?

its for storage of a folded (litter) stretcher. The arms of the stretcher go into the bracket on the windshield and the back end of the stretcher rests on the rear top bow and the arms stick out of the hole in the rear curtain at the top.

Hi Wes,
One of the pictures you posted showed former Pizzoferrato's M170. Take a look at the auxiliary lamp, placed on cowl / hood of driver's side. Was that an original add-on?
Another M170 question: what year of manufacturing occurred the replacement of the material of the seat covers, from cotton canvas to vynil (leatherette)? any special reason for that?
Have a nice week. I've seen USA starting winter, while in Brazil summer is toasting already...time to remove skins from jeeps!!!

The cowl spotlight would have been a field installation.

I believe the A1's and the 170 all came with vinyl from Willys. Canvas would have been a service replacement in the field.
