I looked through several pages of posts to see if this had already been addressed but could find any mention of my problem. I can't seem to get the timing gears off of the crank and cam, any suggestions? Thanks for any help anyone can give me, I'm learning as I go.

You could use a puller, check them in action in some manuals. Slide hammer kits available, cheap and with two/three legged pullers included. Or knock them off, carefully with a hammer and an aluminium rod, especially if they will get replaced.

There's only one special puller that will remove the cam gear without damaging it. That puller is illustrated in the manual. It has two legs that fit inside the two puller access holes in the gear. Pulling from the outer rim of the cam gear will break pieces of the phenolic gear off.

Exercise caution and follow installation directions correctly so you don't cause a new oil leak at the rear of the engine when you install the new cam gear.

Knuckles and finger tips, the gears are safe.
