The Great Willys Picnic, Show and Swap Meet

Post by BobW »

The Great Willys Picnic, Show and Swap Meet

June 12, 2011 from 9 am - 4 pm at the No. 9 Coal Mine & Museum
located at 9 Dock Street, Lansford, PA

It's time to plan for the 12th annual Great Willys Picnic, Car Show and Swap Meet. All vehicles are welcome: stock, modified, projects, CJs, Wagons, Trucks, Jeepsters, Military, Cars and even GPWs! Every pre-1970 Willys vehicle is eligible to win door prizes. This show has grown into the largest Northeast Willys event. 53 vehicles and hundreds of enthusiasts were present at last year's picnic. There is plenty of space for selling your spare parts in the swap meet area. Bring your Willys memorabilia and interesting parts for show and tell. Be sure to arrive early because at 3:00 PM the door prize winners are announced and awarded. Bring your own picnic lunch or support the local Lansford Fire Department who will be selling hot dogs and hamburgers.

The Picnic is held on the grounds of the historic No. 9 Mine & Museum, located at 9 Dock Street, Lansford, Pennsylvania. This is a great setting to display our classic Willys vehicles, as well as entertainment for the entire family. Closed in 1972, the mine was re-opened as a heritage tourism attraction in 2002. Visitors can take a train ride into the mine to see and experience first hand what it was like for old time miners to work underground. There is also plenty to look at in the museum and blacksmith demonstration.

As always the Willys Picnic, Show and Swap is free. Plan to take the optional Coal Mine Tour & visit the Museum for a very reasonable fee.

If you are planning to attend, bring a vehicle, or have any questions please send an e-mail.

Bob, it looks like Wilf, Brian and I are going to try and make this event. We will have to leave home about 3:00 am 8O to get there at a decent time. Wilf has agreed to take his diesel Jetta so the cost of fuel should be affordable. Looking forward to a great day.
Cheers,
Barry
