YES! Spread a white sheet below where
you're working. Gravity works well on
small parts.

Haven't done a Jeep carb but I've done others.

Remove all brass and jets if you can and soak castings in Chem Dip. Dip the other parts also and blow the passages out with moderate air pressure.

When gas dries up it turns to gum then a powder. This powder plugs everything up. The Chem Dip seems to disolve it.

I am working on this now thanks. We dont have chem dip in the uk
so am searching for an equivalent. If anyone knows what the product is, that would help big time. Thanks for all your help.

Doing mine again! The rebuild kit I got from Kaiserwillys was junk. All the gaskets where broke. Tried to add a dab of sealant to the broken spots but did not work. Got A new one from midwestmil and a MUCH better rebuild kit. Should have it back together tomorrow night.

I did not have any Chem dip last time, so I used a bucket and filled it up part way with isopropyl alcohol and let the carb sit in there over night and it came out pretty clean. I used a brass brush and cleaned it the rest of the way and pipe cleaners and shop air to clean the insides...

Andy,

Your post title says YF carb. Do you have a civilian YF carb or the correct military YS carb?

I have the YF civilian on the jeep.

I do have the old YS carb, but have not touched it as I figured there must have been a reason for replacing it previously.

Then my next question is are you attempting to use MWM's YS kit on a YF carb?

Wes thanks for the links, It has answered a question about the float valve and confrimed some procedures. Very helpful as always. I have nearly rebuilt it now, of course a bit nervous about if it works or not. But I will just have to go for it. Andy
