Hi, I have a 52 M38 #56989 and I want to install a battery disconnect. I don't like the look of modern ones so I purchased one for a Sherman Tank.

My question is; Where is the best place to mount it? Since it's military I don't mind it being visible and within reach of the driver. I don't think anyone other than an MV collector would know what it was anyways. Has anyone installed one of these or seen it done? Where was it mounted? Any help or ideas is appriciated. I don't know if it matters but my vehicle is 12v not 24v.

The driving issue is the length of the cables. The shorter the better. This leads you to the battery box area. Since you are 12 volt that depends on which battery box you are using. Look closely at your firewall. There are usually at least two unused holes. Pick one close to the starter. Remove the positive cable from the starter and hook it to your switch. Then add a new short cable from your switch to the starter. No holes drilled and easy access from the driver's seat.

I put mine in the removable heater pannel on the passenger floor. I mounted it rather high so it is only visable if you look real close. This has two benifits one not having to open the hood or get out of the jeep to operat. Two if you ever want the jeep pure stock you only put a hole in a removable pannel that can be replaced or remade.
