OK. Were are the stars located on the m38. Ive been looking at photos and seems that by unit they were in different location.

The Army had a single way to install them which differed by time period and which regulation applied at that time. Variances between different unit motor pools was a fact of life but all you need to do is decide what period in history your motor pool resto jeep is representing. Then select the correct regulation and follow the instructions in the regulation which are very specific. I assume you are a motor pool class resto. If you were a factory class resto there would be no stars.

The two most common regulatory references are the post WWII changes to the old AR850-5 and the 60 ish TB 746-93-1. This gets covered here about every 3 months so a simple search of the board's history will yield all these answers as well.
