The AN/GRC-9 was a very common radio packaged system used from 1950 thru the 70's. The AN/GRC-9 equals Army Navy Ground Radio Communications set #9. When parts of these sets were installed in Vehicles they became AN/VRC = Army Navy Vehicle Radio Communication equipment. You can download in PDF the complete package of US Army Signal Corp installation drawings for radio equipment used in the M38 and M38A1 here.

The PE-237 is a vibrator type power supply for the AN/GRC-9 radio set. It provided power for the GRC-9 radio set when it was installed in a vehicle Radio sets mounted in the M38 and M38A1 were generally VRC or PRC units. A mobile GRC-9 setup would use a jeep or truck to move the radio set and have the PE-237, a PE-195 and assorted antenna's and equipment in a trailer.
