M38 First Aid Bracket, Always there?

In taking my early '51 M 38 apart, I found the flat hinged band tucked up between the glove box and battery box. It was painted the original OD green. The J-bolt was long gone. It still was mounted to the right side of the cowl battery box with the two sheet metal screws. Was this First Aid bracket standard on all M38's? I thought it was strange to take the time to stick it up in there and re-screw it on. Wondered if anyone else found the same thing on theirs. John

Yes that is the standard bracket and location for the M38's thru serial MC59392 and the bracket parts are all listed in the ORD 9 on page 304 & 305.

Neat!, I'll either put it back or find a kit and install it. Thanks Wes. John

If you find a source for the missing parts let us know.
I think it's a neat accessory.. Rick

My '51 M38 is the same way, bracket was there, no J-bolt. I've seen the brackets on E-bay, also Midwest Military. Other parts suppliers may have them too.

Look at the picture of the J Bolt and just make one. That's what I'm going to do. No mystery, except trying to buy a first aid kit at a reasonable price. If they are full and decent shape, they cost!!
