I cannot find a flathead valve spring compressor for sale anywhere. Odd since flathead hotrod engines are still popular.
Any ideas on where to find one that will work on our engine?

They show up on E-bay from time to time. One is listed right now.

Though they may not be on the shelf all the time both NAPA and Carquest used to carry them and may be able to order them in for you.
They are also on Ebay from time to time.
Here's a couple on there now:

Sears. On the shelf. About $29 dollars.
Sears used to have a separate catalog just for Willys and Jeep parts. This tool is about all that is still available from them.

Sears #00947627000 $19.99
Also a KD tool #SPM201570532 $65.60
Listed on the Sears website under specialty automotive tools 3rd or 4th screen.
The Sears tool is prone to rusting almost as soon as you use it but is right in the store usually. KD makes really nice tools but that is a big price spread and I think it has to be ordered.

The Sears tool is for small lawn mower engines but will work for awhile on the jeep. It's just not tough enough. Those two I listed on Ebay will last you your lifetime and then some.
This is the heavy duty type:
This sears tool listed in Hal's post is for the common overhead valve C type tool which usually is not long enough to handle the side valve engines.

It appears that I was successful in getting the Snap on Blue Point CF-13 Valve Spring Compressor on EBay that you kindly posted the link.
Also bought a VINTAGE "ZIM" Mfg. Co. Ridge Reamer #231 NIB. I prefer the older tools.
Thanks

Nice thing about the correct type tool is you do not have to pull the exhaust off.

Dang, I didn't realize how valuable that little sucker kicking around in the bottom of my toolbox for the last thirty years is! Like the people on Antiques Roadshow say, "Now I'll take better care of it!"

Be sure to leave the original patina.

Ha, ha! Will do! I guess the best way to do that would be to leave it right where it is, in the toolbox, until passing it on to my son. Dang, not only "vintage", but also a family heirloom-to-be. Who needs an ugly vase when you have a nifty tool?

It arrived today and it is really neat. Used but not abused with quite a bit of bluing still on it. I wiped down with an slightly oiled rag and it's ready to go. Seriously, it is well made, all steel, and still tight. It is the model pictured on page 44 in TM 9-1804A.
