Sorry no pics. Here are the typical a1 features of this body: right side power port indentation, headlight switch over steering column, glove box left of steering column, 45 degree angle front fender.
Here are the non-typical features: no battery box on cowl, mirror hinge on left side cowl.
Any ideas?

An M38A1 tub with the battery box and cover removed for civilian heater installation and the added civvy mirror mount. Is the battery mount on the firewall or the frame?

Wes,
I think this is a CJ3A chassis with an m38a1 tub on it.
The vehicle is titled as a 1951. An engine number was used as the vin on the title. I believe it corresponds to an engine number for a 1951 CJ3A.
Is the tub just an owner modified tub or is it some kind of special build or preproduction item?
I wasn't aware that m38a1 tubs were produced without the battery box on the cowl.
Also, it looks to me like the "eyebrows" on the front fenders were cut off. Or, were some tubs produced that way?
You can see in the picture of the mirror mount that it appears to be a factory item.
The battery box is on the frame, but I can't tell from the pictures how it is attached.
Take a look at these pictures and tell me what you can about this vehicle. Thanks!

The CJ3A engine will bolt in any CJ or M tub built from 1941 thru 1971 provided the correct front engine plate is used. The M38A1 and the CJ5 are 81" wheelbase jeeps and the MB/M38/CJ2A/CJ3A are 80" wheelbase jeeps so when you use the wrong tub on another frame the wheelbase issue will stick out like a sore thumb. If the engine serial is prefixed with 3JXXXXX then it would be a CJ3A engine.

The tub as you described it is an M38A1 tub butchered by some private owner.
I wasn't aware that m38a1 tubs were produced without the battery box on the cowl.
They weren't. What made you think they were. My comment was that someone cut it out to make room for a civilian heater which I have seen a lot of those done that way.
Also, it looks to me like the "eyebrows" on the front fenders were cut off. Or, were some tubs produced that way?
No, again you have a customized tub by some Bubba in the field.

From the pictures I can see:
1-It's an M38A1 tub.
2-It;s an M38A1 grill.
3-The fenders have been hand chopped in the field.
4-The rear springs are civilian 9 or 10 leaf.
5-The frame is civilian. Possibly CJ3A and definately not CJ2A.
6-I see nothing unusual about the mirror mount. It is the same on the M38A1.
7-The radiator and it's shroud are CJ.

Looks like you have a hermaphrodite frankenjeep which would be an ok fun jeep or a good parts jeep for several different model jeeps.

Thanks for the thorough reply. I posted the questions because the owner wanted to know more about his jeep and I didn't know enough to give him correct answers. I'll pass your info on to him.
