I have been trying to coax the retainer off the cover and have not been able to do so. The ord manual shows it is threaded and I just want to be certain the thread is right handed. The tool landing is so narrow on this part I am afraid of damaging/rounding it if I get too aggressive (hence the nickname) and may just deal with it intact rather than disassemble it. It appears to be very functional and the main reason for removal would be to keep the shifter out of my way. Any feedback appreciated.

Big cresent wrench, lots of heat, take a soft brass hammer and tap the threaded area all around to jar it loose. I may get to do the same to mine, but that is how I'd approach it. If it doesn't come with a reasonable torque, heat it hotter and try again. The grease may catch on fire, so be ready to deal with that. John

And the thread is right handed.
