Mounting tires

Recently purchased a NDCC tire and tube for the spare on my M38. Took it to three different "tire stores in a box" each refused to mount a tire that had a tube. Then took it to a used tire business. They had it on the rim in about five minutes. Guess who I will never buy tires from for my other vehicles.

I've had the same problem - that's why I bought a manual tire changer and wheel balancer from Northern Tools for less than $200 on sale - now I do it myself when I want to and how I want to - Sonny

Had the same problem. Had to go to our ancient neighborhood garage. They had a grizzled mechanic working there. His eyes didn't glaze over when I said inner tube. Most young Bucks hadn't installed an inner tube since they were riding bicycles in grade school.

Another good option is a tire dealer that services agricultural, commercial and industrial customers. They are used to dealing with inner tubes.

I second the agricultural tire and truck tire places. In my area we had lots of military jeeps on the roads. While the bigger "camps" and "stations" had their own motor pool facilities there was also a local agricultural tire dealer/garage/ original Willys/Jeep dealer used by the Army. Still in business till a few years ago, they serviced several smaller Army facilities set up during WWII that appear today to never have had motorpool facilities.
I took in a bunch of M151 rims to have the tires changed and all they said was "we haven't seen those in awhile." A few hours later they were all done.

Dano, it sounds like you brought it to my place! Sometimes it is easier to mount a tire with a tube rather than some of those Wally Mart el Chinkos that have been piled 20 high.
