Light switch problems

I am having trouble with my dash lights - they will not come on.
I have traced the problem to what I think is the light switch.

I have the two plug light switch.

Does anyone have photos or experience taking one of these apart to clean contacts and reassembling it?

I was thinking one of the members had theirs apart with photos on one of the photo galleries, but I cannot seem to find it.

That would be quite a can of worms to open up. Did you check if the lights are grounded first???? That would be a easy fix if it is the problem, John

I did check the grounding, but that was a few months ago. I am going to check again - with this switch it is easy to not have one of the levers turned to the right position to have things come on and I don't remember when I was testing the ground if I had the dash light lever in the correct position.
I have another switch I might take apart and try to work on - maybe that will be fodder for another tech article.

I rediscovered that Remi Edmond has some photos that are helpful on his photo gallery.

I'm copying that great labeling of the lettered posts on the switch back. It brought to mind to take a brass brush and clean the prongs for a better connection. ( battery disconnected ) . You might try that and then power back up. Tracing the feed through the switch to the lead that turns on the dash lights could get confusing I'm sure. Why don't you get Wes some Heine and a tester and have him come over----- John

I also have the switch with two connectors and took it apart when the locking mechanism came apart inside. I am trying to re-assemble it but am having trouble getting the spring loaded contacts back in place. Any suggestions?

I posted the TM for the light switch in the downloads section under M38/M38A1 electrical.

It shows a photo of a guy putting the assembly back together holding the spring loaded contacts down with a thin metal puddy knife while placing the top section over it.

I am sure it takes a few trys. I am going to get back to putting my extra light switch back together after taking a few photos.

It has been over 100 degrees every day here in TX for over a month and I have just not gotten out there to work on it.

I have one of those 2 connector switches that has a losse part rambling around inside. I've been afraid to disassemble it...lol
