1942 slat grill serial number information

Hi,
I am looking for information on 1942 slat grill Willys Jeeps specifically the last serial number and production date. And how to positively identify an original slat grill model as opposed to a conversion. Also I would like to know if there is a way to find out where a certain vehicle was sent to after manufacture, is there access to US army records? I apologize if these are silly questions, I am new to this. Thanks in advance!
