I have a small exhaust manifold leak on my m38. Looks like one is a stud with a nut and the other is a nut and bolt. They really dont seem to want to budge any. Should i try soaking them with something. Also suggestion on where to get my shovel for the side. ps these arent really that old either. Thanks guys. john jr

From what you are describing it is the output of the exhaust manifold to the exhust system... you can cut the nut and bolt off, and replace them with new. The stud needs to be saved as that is correct... There should be a gasket in this joint that is what my dad would call a doughnut... when you put everything back together go to the local ACE hardware and buy brass nuts to put back on the bolt and stud... all the nuts on the exhust system are brass... the vendors carry the ones for the manifold to block the rest can be gotten at ACE...

Hope this helps...

I don't think there is a donut according to one of parts suppliers list, just a flat gasket. Thanks

That's when an acetylene torch comes in handy to heat those bolts and nuts up! especially the cast manifold to get the old stud out without breaking it off!
