I Wish this hadn't happened

jeep now won't go into 2nd gear. It'a like shifting into a brick wall. It simply won't go. Jeep was leaking oil like a sieve, so I 'limped" about 2 miles to get all fluids replaced. I reckon I didn't make it! I've been told most likely I've burned up 2nd gear syncro. :( What parts and seals do I need to repair the transmission? Local garage sees a "goldmine". Doesn't want to use my stuff, but order it himself so he can jack up the price. OTH, he is a good mechanic; I just don't have lots of money to sink into the thing.

So, if it were your transmission, where would you start after pulling the tranny/xfer case down? It needs the seals anyway. (it has not moved since the failure, btw)

If the guy won't use your parts or guarantee that he is buying US made NOS parts, go find someone else or do it yourself. From everything I've read, the quality of commonly available parts is not great. I've read plenty of threads on the forums about rebuilds being done twice because of bad parts. I'm all for saving money, but not in the transmission. Going cheap in the transmission is almost guaranteed to cost more in the end.

Just go to Nowak's and buy what you need and use the two rebuilding guides and read them first then follow them without deviating.
