M170 hood and bumper (unit) numbers

Post by 12Bravo »

I did a little sanding on the front bumper and hood of my M170. It looks like the jeep was part of the 1st Armored Div. Looks like the hood numbers are correct (are they?). Delivery date is Feb 1962

Congratulations on finding the original numbers! You did a good job of careful sanding. The Army changed to the new hood number format (number, letter, four numbers) around mid-1954, so your numbers sound right for 1962. Good luck with your project!

I have scotch brite disks for my drill and have been able to get the spray paint off without taking off the original paint. It does leave little swirl marks but the jeep will have to be repainted anyway. Going to remove as much of the spray paint as I can this way before worrying about repainting the whole thing.
