Good morning all
I am wanting to know if anyone has any idea on what back lights should be fitted to a 1944 gpw when I got it there where no back lights fitted.
I have looked at loads of jeep at many diffrent shows but no 2 seem to be the same some have round back lights some just have what looks like little slits also what do these back lights do did they just have break lights etc thank you for all your help and advice in advance.

They had the standard Blackout 6 volt tail lamps. LR had the oval shaped red glass upper with Slit or cats eye below. RR had two cats eyes, no red oval, upper one is Blackout brake lamp, lower cats eye is driving. Should have 4 vertical divisions in the lower slits. Front had two. When in convoy at night, if you see 4 from the rear you are within 60 feet. If you only see or make out two, you are outside 60 feet from the vehicle in front of you. They mounted inside the large round rear holes or are recessed into the body. Two bolts hold then to a inner mounting plate. They had a large rubber grommet that fit between the taillight housing and body which mounted first on the lip of the hole in the body. Dial up MB/GPW parts for sale, they show up often. John

The jeeps you saw with full round red lens were done by the owners to make their tail lamps more visible thus safer in today's traffic. Many of those owners have the original lens to install during shows. That single 3" x 1 1/2" piece of red glass is painfully inadequate in the high volume fast moving traffic we have today.
