That is very interesting.
Was that a jeep from someone in our group?

No. I found it listed on this site.

I was stunned to see the selling price.

Looking at the pictures that one still had work to be done on it, missing battery box and there were some grommets missing.
The local Jeep guy here says he saw an M-38 go at an auction for $55,000... Who knows...
I can wish tho...

yeah, it definitely is not a factory restoration. I just takes the right buyer to come along with a pocket full of cash.

Most likely a brainless in Seattle buyer who didn't do any market research.
Did you notice the Jun 1950 DOD!!!! She was delivered before the last of the CJV's and before the first six pilot model M38's. About NOV 1950 would be more correct.
Hopefully all the armament is worth eight or nine thousand $'s.
It's also poorly done.
The list would be long:
1-Windshield seating probably due to rediculous post mount.
2-Rubber tranny and transfer boots.
3- Dash cluster and data plates are late series.
4-Hand brake missing.
5-Floors look pretty rough.
6-Interesting exhaust extension heat shield.
7-Horn and button are late.
8-Battery and slave grounds are incorrect.
9-Horn mounting incorrect.
10-Batteries are of course incorrect.

Shouldn't the front lifting shackles be different also?

I didn't gig that since we haven't locked down a serial or date for the switch. My gut feeling is you're looking at a late 51 or newer M38 with a serial tag off a November 50 M38. It would be interesting to see if the wheel house plate matches the dash plate.

Would the later front lifting shackles work on an early frame?

Rick L., don't say selling price, say asking price. I would bet , if it it sells, it will be more in the $9-10 K range

Rick,
The old ones need the old frame and the new ones need the new frame.

A little off topic but when were the six pilot models delivered?
Thanks

Good question Bob. I'll have to dig around. I thought I saw at least one reference to summer 1950.

I have heard about one of the pilot models in a museum somewhere in the eastern US. I can't remember where it was said to be.
I think that would be a very neat jeep to see.
