Ok, the propshafts weren't attached to my 1951 M38 when I bought it. This is what I got in a box:



And here's some close-ups of the shaft ends:






From the top, here's the lengths:

Short shaft = 13" long. Diameter = 1-1/4"
Yoke = 5-1/2" long
Medium shaft = 22" long. Diameter = 1-1/4"
'Green' shaft = 24-1/8" long (inc. yoke). Diameter = 1-1/4"
Long shaft = 26" long. Diameter = 1-3/8"

The 'green' shaft doesn't have the threaded end on the yoke; could this be off a CJ? I can't get the yoke off, but since it's out of line with the other end of the shaft I don't think it's military (no wide locating spline?). All the other shafts had the threaded cup on.

My question is, which shafts would be considered correct for the M38? They all have the "typical" early M38 shaped ends on the shaft (see P.105-106 of Ryan Miller's excellent reference guide). And they all have 'Spicer USA' cast into them.

Not my best photo, but to clarify the ones you indicate as not matching M38 cast profiles, these still have the threaded ring on. The cast profiles are all the same as the 'green' shaft.

I had no idea what they were. The photo lacks adequate deatil to discern they were not part of the shaft. To proper;y show this so there is no error when read by others in the future can you take a closer photo with the threaded yoke caps removed and I'll update mine.

Also note that the blue prints list a production margin of up to 7/8" in length of those shafts. Overall lengths of the main shafts alone and the main shafts collapsed with yokes are all given measured from U-joint centers.
