This is on sale on Ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1952-196 ... m5199ee4f9 for $81.33
People like Midwest Military and Kaiser-Willey's are asking $150 for a rebuild of a pump you supply. What is the difference?

The pump Kaiser Willys offers is from Omix ADA. That pump, is a CJ version. The military pump is quite different. Plumbing is not the same so modification of your original lines is required. Can you make it work? Sure, but it is not original and you should not be mislead. You need to be careful who you buy from. Price is not always the the lead determination in these matters.

To add to John's comments.

The pump from omix is a single action fuel pump. Has no vacuum section pump for the wipers.

The pumps rebuilt by John are built on used original Carter fuel pump housings or other US built replacement housings. They are dual action fuel vacuum pumps and if you want the type without the priming handle or with the priming handle to be sure it matches the correct pump for your jeep they can supply the pump accordingly.

You always will get what you pay for in this hobby.

All the vendors have hiked prices a lot in the last 5 years. Mostly out of necessity. But bottom line is if quality and reliability are important to you then usually you will not get a true bargain from off shore sources.

Another thing on Omix pumps , I got one for my 52 Jeep pickup. The rubber gasket in it swelled up after contact with the gas. When I contacted Kaiser Willys they said they would tell there supplier about it. I had to make my own gaskets to get it to work.

I was just wondering. I think my fuel pump is fine. The truck still won't start some of the time, but once running, it tends to be alright. The plugs and wires, cap and rotor, and batteries are new. The fuel tank is new, the older gas cap I just replaced. I'm putting in a new ignition coil, and hoping between that and the new seal on the gas cap, it will be fine.

Have you tested your old coil and determined it was bad?

Why did you replace your gas cap? Starting and running issues that can be traced to the gas cap are caused by a gas cap NOT venting properly.

The gas cap is old, sticks when I unscrew it, and the top metal part now pulls loose. I was going to replace it anyways. It never hurts to have a back up coil, it wasn't very expensive, and since the Jeep tends to have a problem at the worse times (like in a dark parking lot miles from home), I don't know that it is consistently working.

If the new gas cap and coil do not change the situation where will you look next?

Have you tried following my Ohm checking procedure on the coils? If so what were your readings?

That's a good idea, and I'll check it when I get home. I'm in Austria right now, back for one day. then I got to Boston. I get back on Tuesday, September 6th, and I'll have to check it then. I have a time light, and will check the timing as well. These trucks are pretty simple compared to modern vehicles, I'll keep doing process of elimination until I sort it out.
