M170 resto proceeding

I have decided to restore the M170 as a cargo or troop carrier. I want to preserve it and be able to convert it to an ambulance or radio version in the future.
Would the patent plate be MD-Axxxxx ?
Are there photos of any in cargo/troop carrier configueration ? I looked in past posts but photo links are gone.
Were they a specific build or a field mod ?
