What is the process for replacing the leaf spring bushings? How do you remove the old ones and how do you install the new ones? I am referring to the bushings on the opposite end from the shackles. M38A1.

Are you talking about the U shaped pivot bracket and not the frame mounted bracket?
The U shaped bracket should screw out. I am not sure on the M38A1, but on the M38 the driver front and the pass rear have left hand threads and the other two are normal right hand threads.
I think I got that right (driver front, pass rear). Anyone feel free to correct me!

The leaf springs have a u shaped shackle on one end and on the other end there is a bushing which has an inner piece of metal surrounded by some type of rubber material and then another piece of metal. It bolts to a mount that is welded to the frame. I believe they may call it an eye bushing.

Wayne,
The M38 has a similar bushing.
On the M38, those bushings can be pushed or pressed out. Should be the same for the M38A1, but I am not as familiar with the M38A1.

Thanks Ryan, I will check with a local mechanic shop and see if they have some type of press.
