M38 F-Head question...

I was working on the cylinder head for my M38 that was delivered on 4/52. I noticed that it does not have a bypass hose outlet on the front which I believe is supposed to be on all M38 engines. It does have a water outlet on the top rear of the head that has a plug in it.

This is what is exactly on the top of the head for info.

3/12 Firing Order 1-3-4-2
800376
2 6.48 WILLYS
JEEP

Unfortantly the serial number on my block I believe has been machined off but someone stamped 19711 with a star symbol after that on the front of my head and on the block. Any ideas? I know this block has been rebuilt for sure because it has .060" pistons installed.

Just wondering if this is a rebuilt military engine off of something else like a gen set or something....

I hope to have get more info off the block when I get it out. Any info appreciated! Thanks!

My guess would be a CJ3A engine which used the same head casting without the bypass port drilled in it.

Wes,

What if the engine has an FA stamped at the beginning of the number above the water pump?

Thanks
