Well, I hit the lottery! (figuratively).

I picked up, locally, a fairly restored 1951 M38. it was media blasted, so I have no hood numbers. I have had some input on the hood number and will be going off that.

Serial number: 24909. I need to get underneath and locate the body numbers. no tub tag.

This was Hillbilly's

Anyways here's some pics.

If you're around Fayetteville, NC for the Veteran's Day parade, look for the Jeep for VFW Post 4542. Also looking for some locals to meet up with to compare notes and vehicles. Let me know!

I am already collecting a list of parts that I will need, modifications, etc...

Niiice find but you're missing all the fun of tracking down parts, replacing rusted out pieces, bloody knuckles, a wife who screams at you for...well, just about anything related to the M. ;)

Still got a lot to track down, I can replace parts anyways, and I don't have a wife... oh wait, seems like I'm not really missing all that much! haha

That's a great looking jeep, but it can't be an M38; I don't see any oil leaks on the floor!

hahaha... wondering when you were going to chime in!

I'm very happy, actually shrunk the seat foam yesterday, easier to see now (plus I can drive with the windshield up!)

if the rifle holder is for a M1, I'm game, not the 30 cal mount, sorry man.

The standard windshield mounted rifle holder is universal unit. Both the M1 carbine and the M1 rifle fit in it. There is an adapter for the SMG's.

Some of this was just discussed on this page.

The metal holder that goes on the windshield will carry both. There were Carbine specific canvas covers, Garand specific canvas covers and universal canvas covers.
