M38A1 windshield question

Hi there!
I have 2 fairly simple quiestions to do with the M38A1 windshield.

1st. The spring loaded catch on the top front center of the windshield is it used for both securing the hood in the raised position and also securing the windshield in the lowered position. Or just the former and the windshield is secured in the lowered position by a strap through the footman loops?

2nd. with the split windshield the dividing part in the center is it just made up of the rubber weather seal or is there a metal componet to it?

Thanks!

Phil...

I sold my A1 in 1990 but as I recall the Catch on the windshield and the "U" bolt on the hood only align for latching with the windshield and the hood up. TM 9-8014 Paragraph 254 on page 305 and 306 explains how to fasten the windshield down on the hood with the strap attached to the top inside of the windshield. TM 9-8014 Paragraph 255 on page 306 and 307 ex-plains how to latch the hood up to the windshield when it is raised.

I don't recall any metal strip in the middle. Just the vertical rubber weather strip and the hard rubber filler strip.
