My son and I have been working on a 1951 M38. Had it running well until we tried starting it one day recently and it became terribly flooded. Determined that one of the diaphragms in the carburetors was leaking. Ordered a new rebuild kit and rebuilt the carburetor using TM9-1826A, December 1952 edition for directions.
Got everything put back together and put the carburetor back on the jeep and then there was a problem with hesitation on acceleration. Did a search here on the WillysMJeep forum and found the replies posted by Wes for similar symptoms. Found out from Wes that the Metering Rod Spring is shown in the wrong place in Figure 60 of the above mentioned manual. Rearranged the spring this afternoon and no more hestiation!
Thanks Wes and all the others that contribute to this forum that help to prevent a lot of frustration with our problems!

And thank you Kendall for putting forth the effort to research the answer on your own!

Glad she is running now for you!
