Carburator fittings...wrong?

Post by Herrmann_Sherman »

I want to change the old fittings of the fuel pipe. My problem is that everytime I order new ones the dealers are sending me the attached version on the left side from my picture.

But which ones are the right fittings? In my M38 is the version on the right side in use...they are much smaller...

What size fuel line does your M38 have?

The fitting to the right looks more like a 3/16" fitting. According to the ORD 9, the fuel line fittings should be 1/4".

Some of the vent line fittings are 3/16". Is it the fuel line or vent line fittings you are replacing?

The whole fuel line is a selfmade thing as much as I can see. It seems that nothing is in original condition, even not the carburator. So I don´t know what is wrong and what is right...a dealer sold me a Hotchiss spare part and it matches perfect to the left fitting.... :?

Do you have a hose supplier in Germany local to you? In my neck of the woods here in the states, I can just go buy those fittings.

If you only want to change the fittings on your existing fuel line, then do as Bretto suggests. Take your old fittings to a local vendor, and they should be able to provide exact replacements.

Or, if you want to replace the whole fuel line, then check out section 0306 of the ORD-9 parts manual (pages 80 to 83). A list of everything you need to restore the fuel line to original is in there. The list of abbreviations on pages 5 to 7 will help you too.

If you don't have it, the ORD-9 can be downloaded here:

Just select the 5th one down (ORD 9 SNL G740).
