Dana 41 question

I know the 41 model wasn't stock in the M38. I just have a few questions about it. I was able to aquire one for a real good low price  . I only got it because I thought I had seen at one time the the parts of the 41 and the 44 were able to interchange. I figured I'd get it to have some items on hand as spares and scrap the housing. Mainly I'm hoping the hubs and the axle shafts swap out. Are these items interchangable between the two axles? Anything else?
Thanks,
Brett

The 41/44 have different diameter ring gear and pinion gear

http://www.vintagejeepparts.com/axle_id.asp This one has an error in it's chart. The very early CJ3A (up to serial 62488) came with a 41 also.

Housing and differential differ as does the bearing retainer in the end of the axle. I believe the axles are the same and the backing plates and brakes are the same.

Got most of it it stripped down tonight. I have to say pretty much all of it looks the same other than like you said, the ring/pinion, carrier and obviously the housing. The ring is surprisingly thin looking, reminds me of the D25. The hubs look similar but don't have the three retaining screw holes since the drum on inboard of the hub
I didn't notice anything different about the bearing retainer.

I can only say the Parts list shows the retainers with different PN's 41 vs 44.
