Is their anyone who rebuilds old fuel pumps??

Post by Jordan »

:?: Is there anyone out there who rebuilds old fuel pumps? I am having trouble getting a replacement fuel pump to match my original. I think I'll just have the original re-build. Who doest that kind of thing?

Thanks,

Jordan

Then and Now has been rebuilding them for years. I do not know who John's rebuilder is.

When comparing prices/work be sure to confirm if the work is for the fuel pump portion only or for both fuel and vacuum portions.

Had mine done by Then and Now. From what I hear, you may not get back the same pump you sent in. I happened to, but there are no guarantees. The job done was quality. I assume MWM would be as well.

Figure in the $160 out the door range for complete rebuild of pump and vacuum.

Check out the Supplier Review section here on the website. I physically took my fuel pump to Then and Now (I live in the Boston area) and they gave me my fuel pump back after cleaning it up and putting the replacement parts in it. I would say that if you send it to them and ask that they rebuild your pump, not do a core replacement, it might take a little longer but they'll rebuild your pump.
I feel that they do very good work and am happy, as are other's in the area that I've talked to.

What usually happens at Then & Now is they have a hard time finding replacement center pump housings that are rebuildable. They only have center housings without the hand pump lever accommodations. So yes you get back your own pump but the center housing may not be the one you sent in. If this is an issue for you be sure to state that on the phone and include a letter to that effect in the box with the pump.

John,
Excellent training manual. A bit dated though but fine to use in conjunction with the post WWII TM 9-1828A Fuel Pump O/H manual in the downloads section.
