Which trailer is right??

Post by breadbox »

My dad has both the Bantam trailer and a Vietnam era trailer as well as a dump trailer, all are 1/4 ton jeep trailers. What one would be correct to tow behind my M38A1??? My jeep is a 53.

Thanks, Chris

If its 53 I would say any of the WWII manufactured trailers or the early M100 with curved mudgaurds or any of the trailers on the M115 chassis. I'm not sure what period the angled mudguards came out.
In Europe the WWII NON M Series trailers had amazingly long life spans and were still being released in the 90s !!!!!
All the best,
Dave.

The WWII MBT's and T3's were set up for 6 volt and the old round bakelight trailer harnes plug. These trailers also used the 6.00-16 tire common to the MB and GPW. These trailers are best left to the WWII jeeps MB and GPW.

The M100 was introduced in 1950 to compliment the M38 and also fit the M38A1. It had the new style M series trailer harnes plug and 24 volt electrics. These trailers used the 7.00-16 tire also used by the M38 and M38A1. This is the correct trailer for your M38, M38A1 or M170.

The M416 trailer uses the late M series trailer harnes and connector and is 25 volt and has a 7.00-16 wheel and tire. However it's track width is wider than the M38/M38A1 because it was designed to compliment the wider track M151 and the M416 used the M151 style wheel. This trailer is best left for use by the M151 crowd.
