no doubt at some point in the past this has been brought up before, but here goes anyway...where are all the body mount locations and which thickness of cushions go where...on the ORD 9 G-740 parts CD that I have, it mentions three different thicknesses(1/8", 3/16", 1/4") of cushions, but not their locations, in total, the manual calls for 16 body cushions...thanks

Looking in the SNL G740 under Section 1801, it lists the Cushions needed.


Point 1 point is where the front toe board supports are... there are pads under the supports and one on the outer frame under the brackets, this one lines up with the weld nut in the frame. (4 total)

Points 2 are the frame backets on the floor just at the base of the toe board (2 total)

Point 3 is frame bracket under the fuel tank and tool box (2 total)

Point 4 is frame bracket under the lip of the tub, where it rises from the front to the rear floor (2 total)

Point 5 is in the rear floor in he area of the cross bember by the rear axle (2 Total)

Point 6 is the rear cross member there are 4 points here 2 in the rear light mounts and two just outboard of the tailgate (4 total)

This is where my research puts them, I found holes for all locations in both the tub and frame. there should be a total of 16 cushions used...

thanks Hal...yes, I did see that the mounting for the cushions are mentioned points one through six in the parts listing, but I didn't see where they physically were located, is that indicated in a manual other than the 740 parts listing, or did you figure out which thicknesses went where by comparing what came off of your jeep? I found the parts info in the SNL of course, Wesk and the rest of the folks here supplied the info on the points locations. Along with the points on the tub aligning up with the frame...

thanks Wes...I found the same info in my parts list, but I didn't know where the different locations actually were, as they don't seem to be indicated in the G740(ie. No.1, No.2, and so on) until Hal filled me in...On another note, I've been searching high and low for a replacement check ball connector that threads into the 90 degree elbow in the centre of the fuel/vacuum pump as part of the underwater ventilation system...my jeep has this system fairly complete including brackets, except for the vent line from the brake master cyl. cap to the tee fitting and the line going to the bellhousing tee has been crimped off at the fuel pump, also the fuel pump elbow has been brazed closed...both control valves have been wired shut and the cables to the dash have been cut......I found what appears to be an exact replacement at Fairview Fittings website, P/N 43-3A described as, check ball connector 3/16" tube 1/8" pipe, gravity flow...I was concerned about the "gravity flow" part because I thought it may possibly not have the spring to seat the ball, but I spoke to a sales rep in Toronto today who got one out of stock and assured me that it did indeed have the spring. He has mailed me one for a sample to try, so if it works, as I'm sure it will, I'll let everyone know...they have "a whole bunch" in stock apparently...I've emailed Bob Westerman about this and he has informed me that his latest update about the underwater ventilation system includes this part number....this part is also required if one is installing the cold weather primer system.

If you can get a couple of those Ball check valves, let me know I will pay cost plus, I tried to get one here in the states, but they (Fairview) would not sell to me because I am not a Retail seller... and I could not find one of their reps here in the states that carry the part... no replies to emails...

I made one that looks similar, just soldered in the center like a plug...

Continuing the note about the body mount cushions.

I wasn't aware that the cushions were of different sizes untill this topic developed.

About eight months ago I told a vendor to send me the body mount pads for the M38. Today I looked at the package and What I got was 12ea (3" x 1-1/2" x 1/4").

The parts list calls for 12ea 1/8" cushions.........2ea 1/4" cushions and 2ea 3/16" cushions.

Are the different sizes 3/16" thick and 1/8" thick available?

I'm not sure if anyone carries more than one thickness in their kits. I would plan on putting as a minimum at least the thickness called out in the ord and thicker if needed to position the tub correctly. Old tire stock cut with a hot knife works quite well.

guys, if there is enough interest, I'll have the salesman in TO(that's Toronto for you fellers south of the border) send me some or I may even get up that way and pick up a bunch...I'll wait a week or so and whoever has responded by then will be getting these valves..I'll get a couple extra in case...while talking to the sales rep, he told me that these are parts that have been sitting for quite some time and they may not be made again because there is a similar part in 1/4" tube X 1/8" pipe that is more common.

At work I've been collecting various pieces of old conveyor belting as we replace it...there's different thicknesses because the powers that be are always doing "well, let's try this new style of belt and see how it lasts", so I have quite the selection.
