Fuel line plumbing question....

I am probably the most ignorant guy on this forum. Having made that confession, I'm looking for a little advise on plumbing my fuel line. My project is a civilianized M-38 with a CJ2 or CJ3 engine (heck if I know). I put a fuel tank in the rear berween the frame rails and ran my fuel line up the inside of the right frame rail (as you are facing forward), then I ran it across the front of the engine block about level with the top of the fuel pump. I am real happy with the installation thus far. I have good fitment with my bends and plenty of fuel line hold downs with the rubber between the band and the fuel line.

Here are my questions, first, I ran 5/16" fuel line from the tank, so I'll have to step down before plumbing into the fuel pump---or couldn't I find a 5/16 inch 90 degree fitting with a 1/4 shank dia. and run the 5/16 line right into the pump? Assuming I can, would there be any problem with 5/16" line all the way into the fuel pump??

Next question, I have to make some pretty sharp bends to get from the front of the engine block around to the side of the fuel pump. So here is the second question: Must the fuel line be solid line, or can I use a few inches of hose transitioning from the fuel line to the pump?

I don't think there would be a problem with the 5/16 in line. You do need a short piece of flexable line between the frame and the fuel pump due to vibration issues.

For the flexible line, I presume I could just have a short piece of 5/16 hose joining the ends of the two 5/16 solid lines----one solid line going into the fuel pump.

They were rubber flexed from the pump to the frame rail or fender and then solid. 1/8 inch pipe at the pump to 1/4 or for you, 5/16 inverted flare. How did you run your exhaust past the gas tank, and clear the differential? Small tank? John

John:

I had to run the exhaust out in front of the rear weel on the left side. I did not have enough room behind the rear axle.
