One piece Jerry Can strap?

I ordered seat covers from Surplus City and decided to get a Jerry Can strap while I was at it.
They sent me one strap which I think is incorrect. I called Surplus City and the guy says they used the single strap setup at some point.
I personally don't care too much about originality but is this information true and how to you attach the one piece strap? He said is uses the backside slot on the Jerry Can holder and not the facing towards the back of the Jeep.
Thanks for the help.

I have a one-piece strap on my M38A1 - it isn't attached to the jeep in any way, just wraps under the jerry can holder through the cut-out slots, under the handles on top and back down with the buckle in front.

A problem with one piece is the can will usually rattle in the can holder. The two piece firmly fixes the can relative to both the can carrier and the rear of the tub or tailgate.

You can order the rivets (I got some from WeeBee Webbing) and make a two piece strap out of a one piece strap.

I figured out a good way to secure the can using a 4' strap. I fed the flat end of the strap through the footman loop for the can strap and down and up through the front (next to tub) slot on the jerry can holder, up and around the can handle. It is real tight and I couldn't pull or move the can out of the holder. I'm real happy with this setup and I'll post a picture tonight.
Thanks again for your input.

When I bought my seats from Surplus City I decided to order the strap just to give it a try. Hooking it up didn't make sense until I called them for help. Works fine but probably not period correct.

I'm sure there were a lot of jeeps in the field that used whatever they had to
