M38 ground straps

Post by henrydes »

I am putting my motor back in after a rebuild and dont remember whare the second ground strap attaches to. I can find no references to this strap in any book I have, It bolted to the front of the block below and behind the fan and has a bolt hole on each end. Its about a foot long. Any info and especially pictures woild be appreciated. I am not talking about the strap pictured in Ryans book. Thanks

This is off a CJ3B.This is the one from the motor mount to the front engine plate under the generator. Look about 2/3 way down page for picture from manual.

There's only one ground strap on a M38 or M38A1 engine. The one at the right front engine mount.

It is common for folks experiencing electrical problems to install an extra ground strap but then they find the real cause of their problem and leave the strap there anyway.
