My 51 M38 was hard starting..low compression..had motor rebuilt..new carb and fuel pump... Now will start quickly..runs great..can stop and start it when hot..but if I wait two or three hours it wont start. I have tried to start it and checked the plugs and they are dry. Ive done and checked everything I can think of...Need help...

Next time it won't start after a 3 hour shut down (heat soaking) remove the carb air horn and see what the fuell level is in the bowl. If it's empty then it has either leaked out through a crack or it has perculated out becuase you are either missing the thick insulating spacer that belongs between the carb base and the manifold or you have a heat riser that is stuck in the full heat position.
M38 now starts all the time

I learned the hard way...Make sure that your choke plate is closing all the way.

Speaking of stuck heat risers, are there any tricks to getting them unstuck other than the usual penetrating oil, patience, and judicial percussive persuasion?

My engine does not start quickly either.
I always have to pump the dash primer pump to get it started right off.
I am not sure if I have that correct insulator either.
Is this the piece that has the "V" metal difuser in it?
I do have that installed.
