So yeasterday I was sweeping out the Garage and pulled all the vehicles out like i do every couple of weeks or so. I like leaving my 51' M-38 running 15-30 minutes keeping things in working order, holding the hand throttle outabout 1000rpms. About 10 minutes into the warm up it started smoking like bad, like a smoke screen bad!!! Before I could get to it, about 10-15 seconds it stared to clear out and then ran perfect for the next 10 minutes or so with no more smoke! Any ideas or theories what could have caused that to happen? 95% restored to original under the hood. The 5% left are very minor details.

Thanks
Keith

Black or Blue or White smoke?

Black = rich fuel
Blue = Oil in cylinder/valve guides/exhaust.
White = Coolant in cylinder/valve areas/exhaust.

Not black, but hard to say if it was blue or white. If blue, a very pale blue.

thanks for your help.

Hold a clean white piece of paper near the exhaust for a few seconds. That will give you a sample of whats coming through.
Can you make out a smell on the paper? gas, oil, antifreeze?
