ok guys, i need opinions!!. while taking off the old canvas from the seats, the original springs are in pretty good shape for being as old as they are. im trying to decide on cleaning the springs up and reusing them or just order new cusion's.

if i decide to reuse the springs, cana person send them in to one of the canvas shops and have them recovered like the original's?

post all opinions please. thxs

Old stock springs are usually very tired and will not give you the service, feel and comfort of the modern foam cushions. I would not fool with old springs. I would consider using NOS springs if I could find them.

I'm curious if there is any value in the old springs. I have my rear seat cushion springs now as well as the front seat cushion springs I replaced but have a tendency to keep the old parts as they come off my jeep.
So is there any value in those, or are they just old scrap now? I'll never use them, most likely, but wouldn't mind them going to a home where they will be used.

I'm not a fan of springless seats; I experienced the "feel & comfort" of modern foams on a 400-mile trip in a WW2 jeep. Don't think the cheeks ever recovered from it.

I'm curious if there is any value in the old springs.

I bought a full set of rear seat springs & padding last year for $100. Some folks may say that's expensive for 50-odd year old seat springs, but the rear seats don't see as much action as the front ones. And I was very happy with what I got for my coin.

P.S. I'm still looking for one front seat base spring, in good useable order.

I, too, prefer springs over foam for the same reasons as my UK friend. If headroom is an issue, remember that a 4" spring compresses more than a 4" foam cushion and is MUCH COOLER. I am looking for a full set (fronts and rears) of springs near Italy. I would appreciate any heads-up in that regard.

Sounds like you're "sittin" (pun intended) on a real find!!

Ha! Ideas are springing up from everywhere!
I'll keep them until I decide what to do with them. Covering them with canvas would be a cheaper alternative for the rear seat than new foam cushion inserts.

i think the springs are in good enough shape to reuse them, i'll check them out more closely to see.

does anyone know of somewhere to purchase nos springs???. thxs
