Gen. Plug color

Post by jeeps8 »

Was wondering about the color on the plug for the generator ? (The female 90 off the Gen. to VR) Was it originally plated(zinc?) , bare metal or painted black? Also on the other connectors too, Volt. Reg, Dist. etc. Are the threads on these used as a ground and would plating effect this?
As a PS, semi gloss black is correct? I know a search would answer this ,but just throwing it in.

New they were cadmium plated. Cad plating of threaded plugs and receptacles had that consideration included by the engineer in sizing of thread cuts and quantity of plating material. If you are replating connectors in a resto you should avoid adding any plate material to the threaded areas.
