fuel in crankcase

Hi I just aquired a 1952 M38 that had been sitting for several years, it started very easy but after it ran for about 10 min I had a leak from the bell housing. needless to say I thought the rear main seal was shot, but after looking into this I figured out it was fuel in the crankcase, and the intake manifold was full also. What amazed me was the engine would still run, not real well but it still ran. I have a carb kit on order and I also sent the fuel pump to Terrill Machine in TX. to be rebuilt as the diaphrams have cracks. This M38 is very clean and I would like to keep as many original parts on it as I can, I will keep you posted

Thanks for the warm welcome, but first things first. I have to get it running, but I can take a few pics while I wait for parts.

Thanks, I looked it up. DeLeon is between Ft Woth and Abilene just south of I-20.
Good to know another source for fuel pump repairs.
By the way, was your fuel pump one with the vaccum pump also?

Yes It is a vacuum/fuel pump, I wanted to order a rebuild kit and they wouldn't sell me one but they only charger me $75.00 to rebuild it plus shipping. I just purchased a carb kit from Kaiserwillys and it was $49.00, just a bag of parts and gaskets no instructions or diagrams, and it didn't include some parts I needed.

The best kit is from Midwest Military or Army Jeep Parts for $55. It has all the correct parts and late model rubber parts that will hold up to todays fuels.
All the instructions you need for the overhaul of the carb, fuel pump or any other part of your jeep is available here on our group's files storage areas. We are still moving files from the old m38/M38A1 Yahoo Group so you must maintain a membership there to access those files.
The TM pages applicable to the YS carbs are on this site:
http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/mje ... 20Service/
The seperate sheet of specs for the YS950S M38A1 carb are at the same site.
