Hey guys,

I need a quick id of this transfer case setup - is it M38 or CJ?

I am stripping my old Bubbafied frame to take to the scrapper and sell the parts I don't need. I know this doesn't look like the rear of my 'a1 transfer case. I'm keeping the tranny, front and rear ends and rear springs (fronts are CJ). Not much else left after that.

I assume you meant M38A1 not M38. The brake drum and supports are wrong for a M38A1 yet the lever pivot looks like the threaded bolt style used on the front of the M38/M38A1 case. That brake drum looks like a WWII GPW brake drum.

It's installed in my old M38a1 frame. I know it is not set up for an 'a1 - I just figured one of the M38 guys on here could do a quick ID if it was an M38 setup or CJ.

M38 Transfer with winch PTO. This is the same brake drum used on the CJ's.

Found it! It's an MB/GPW transfer case without parking brake hardware.

Thanks for the help

I just went back and re-read - you sure did! I had this posted on the G503 forum too, and Ben is saying it is definitely an M-series, but I know it is a WW2 bearing retainer and drum. I'm not up for an argument, so I just stopped there. When I take it off the frame, I'll pressure wash it and do some research on it then. This thing was so Bubbafied that I wouldn't put anything past the previous owner!
