Pulled the cluch bell crank while removing the tranny on my M38 and saw cotter pins on the crank, what are they for. Also on an add for the crank I saw what looks like small fabric pads that look like they belong inside the crank, what are they for. Thanks for any advise...

Not sure how you could see the crank through the bell housing's tranny hole with the clutch and pressure plate still installed. I think you are looking at the pressure plate spring retainers. You'll have to post the ad or one of it's photos since we have no idea what ad or vendor you are referring to.

I think he's referring to the tube that goes between the frame and transmission that the clutch release rod attaches to. I believe the cotter pins serve as stops and the felt pads are supposed to be soaked in oil for lube at the pivot point. Hope that helps.....

There should be a felt washer and a rubber seal in each end of the clutch control tube, and one compression spring. All shown in the parts manual in Fig. 02-2. That's all there is to prevent death from dirt of the ball studs and control tube.
