Hi; Does anyone have any info on the proper placement and tiedown for an axe on the 55 m38a1 jeep Some articles say there was no axe on the 38a1. Any pics would be appreciated Gene

It is mounted on top of the right wheelhouse, head to the rear in a strap steel bracket and secured with a Canvas strap through footman loops mounted adjacent to the bracket.

Wes, your photos are an incredible reference library. Thanks for making them available. When my "Favorites" links to a bunch of your old photo site images quit working it was certainly a "Oh Crap" moment.

I've looked at your above picture from your "Tools" sub-album and the picture below from your M38A1 & M170 Body sub-album and still can't quite see clearly the attachment and routing for the strap securing the axe head. Does the axe head lay on top of part of the strap when it is secured? (using the stap itself for "anti-squeak" material).



If anyone has a picture from a different angle or a clear sketch of the SOP attachment and routing for the M38A1 axe head strap, please post it.

It's a one piece strap. If you look closely the starp buckle is on the driver's side. A few inches from the buckle you will note the strap is sewn to itself to provide a loop for the driver's side footman loop. The empty buckle is laid on top the head of the axe and the free end goes under the head of the axe from the driver's side to the pax side around the bladed and up through the footman loop on top of the metal bracket then from there to the buckle.

Comparing photo 1 and photo 2 the second photo vehicle is missing the rear
footman loop on the inside of the tub for the strap for the top/sides.

The strap is also missing, but the front strap is there.

What confuses that pic a little is the strap for the rear bow bracket
is laying on top of the axe head and strap.

I could not get the eBay link to work.
