ok guys, trying to work two issues with my Jeep, this one I'm not really sure on how to work. Basically the belts are squealing something nasty.

I've got the same problem. The belts are matched in sequence.
no amount of adjustment helps. I suspect drag from 1 of the
accessories, genny or w-p. 1 variable is my junk offshore
waterpump with the crappy pully and incorrect spacing between
the belts. But other than suspect i've done nothing more.
I, like you, will be interested in any input from the group.

I have the 100 amp 4 belt setup. If you want to hear squeal, come to my house. I also have noticed powdered rubber. When looking at the belts, they are getting a pulley groove in them which shows that the belts are not making total contact with the pulleys. I think that belt profile and size is the root of the problem. I think if i motored the alternator, it would power up the drive train! 8O . What do your belts show for wear? John

There you have it. Belts squeal when they are loose or when they have insufficient contact with any of the pulleys. If yours are tight enough and still squeal then have someone here that can read the part numbers on their non-squealing belts share that number with you. And yes always change them in pairs.

Maybe it's your problem, but I went crazy thinking that the belts squeaked, and finally the problem was a crack in the intake manifold

Just a little insight (very little) from a new guy....Wesk and oilleaker1 might have hit on the problem......with age your pulley WILL wear.....causing your belt to ride to far into the groove and not make contact with the sides of the groove. You can often remove the belt and look at the pulley......It should NOT be shiny all the way down unless the belt is riding to low in the groove.
