ive just finished school and decided to put my m38 back together and see if i can get it running. it started up like a champ but when i push down on the clutch at all there is a squeaking noise and it goes away once the clutch is completely let down. someone mentioned a throwout bearing, does that sound correct? i can make a video and record the sound if that helps.

my clutch is not new and is the original one from when i pulled it out of the woods. clutch worked and had some life left to it so i didn't swap it.

Sounds like a throw out bearing or as it is often called the clutch release bearing.

Take of the tranny cover plates and the small inspection plate on the bell housing. A few shots of oil at the bearing should let you know.

Squeaking and squealing noises could be nearby pigs or hogs. , or a throwout bearings, or the input inside of the brass flywheel bushing. Several of mine will do the noise once in a while when cold. Greased pigs are still noisy!!!!!!! John

If there is no noise when the clutch is out, but there is when you have your foot on the pedal pressing down until your foot is off the pedal again, it will be most likely the throwout bearing.
