Does anyone bother with putting a sealant on the removable floor panels?
If I do, I'd like something non hardeing and non adhesive. Any suggestions? Some some sort of putty llike plumbers putty or duct seal?

Hey Bretto. I think they did - there was some type of sealer on mine before I blasted it, but I don't know what it was. All I can tell you is "Don't use butyl tape!" It is a pain in the butt. I'd rather have air leaks and squeaks than deal with the stuff. I pulled mine back off of the master cylinder floor plate the second time I pulled it.
Maybe some type of thin foam weatherstrip would work good enough. But if you're going for a factory resto, I don't know what to suggest - I'm sure Wes will know for sure.

I wonder if it is sticky? That was the problem with the butyl tape. I guess I should have guessed by the name - "tape" - that it would be sticky, huh!

The proper sealant for the floor panels is still sold...
You can get it from ACE hardware stores in the weather proofing section... (Where you get the rubber tape and such to seal doors) it is Gray putty that comes in a roll... 4 beads side by side and about 4 ft long... It stays soft and is water proof and plyable... cost about 5 bucks or so...
I would not recommend you put it in place till you are finished taking panels off if a restoration or maintenace is on going...
Hope this helps...

I've used it many times for many projects! It's called 'Mortite', and comes in brown as well as the more well-known grey version.

That sounds almost like butyl tape - gray, soft and pliable - stuck after you put it between 2 pieces of metal (or anything else) and bolt it together. It is used on everything on an RV (windows, fittings, doors, outside moulding, etc) I bought it in 100' rolls, 3/4" wide, 1/8" thick.
Same thing - don't put it on anything that you need to work on - it's a pain
