Hello guys,
So, I have a Dana 25 in my garage that that is rebuilt and my friend also had one in his garage that looks like garbage but is still salvagable. He gave it to me, for a case of beer, and I was going to take his axle and get it rebuilt with disc brakes. I was cleaning up the axle housing and can't find the "25" on the side of the housing, which makes me believe it might be a Dana 27.
I was wondering if there is an easy way to tell the difference between a Dana 25 and a 27? Thank you!

PS- My Dana 25 used to have ball bearings in it and they cracked the housing and looks like the bronze spindle bushing as well. The guy fixed it by welding it and setting a U-joint in place of the ball bearings.

I was wondering what you all think about this? Reliable or should I get rid of it?

"DANA 25/27
These Danas are indistinguishable in appearance. The military Model 25 has a thick, cast cover, while the 27 and civilian-model 25s have a thinner cover, will accept taller gears, and backed V-6s."

Best I can find!!

p.s. civvy front axles have the hose shield held on w/4 bolts, mil uses only 2

p.p.s. You might want to reduce the size of your pix b4 posting! :D
